World Bank - Water and Sanitation Program (WSP): “Technical assistance of the Water and Sanitation Program to the Water and Sanitation Sector in Ecuador”. Study on post-project sustainability of rural water supply and sanitation services in Ecuador. Assessed the prevalence of sustainable rural water and sanitation services among those installed five years ago or older and evaluate the factors related to the sustainability of these services. The Ecuador study is relevant because its results are used in bank-funded rural water and sanitation projects in Ecuador and elsewhere in Latin America. Ninety (90) rural communities were visited and evaluated by a team of specialists who determined the major indicators (factors with major impact) on sustainability of these services.

 

World Bank - Water and Sanitation Program (WSP): “Lessons Learned about the factors that contribute to the rural water and wastewater services sustainability in Latin America”. An analysis, compilation and systematization of more than 400 documents published on sustainability of water and wastewater services in rural areas, produced in the different countries of the region, was carried out in order to identify the most important factors than contribute to the sustainability of the services. To complement the literature review, NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc. interviewed more than 30 specialist in the subject, who offered their expert opinion on the themes relieved. The results obtained help to understand the dynamics of the water and sanitation sector in rural areas and will assist in he development of policies and sectorial strategies and the evaluation of investments.

 

Superintendencia de Servicios Sanitarios (Chile Regulatory Agency): Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment Technology Alternatives for Chile. Assessment of the technical and economical factibility of alternative technologies with the objective to improve sustainability and meet regulatory requirements in urban communities. Regulatory analysis and economic assessment of various technologies for four ranges of communities. Evaluation and definition of design guidelines for the treatment technologies evaluated.
Special emphasis was placed in the evaluation of alternative treatment technologies for medium and small communities.

NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc. was retained by the Water and Sanitation Program of the World Bank to elaborate a Field Note that summarizes the findings of the study “Lessons Learned about the factors that contribute to the rural water and wastewater services sustainability in Latin America”.
