Wastewater Treatment

Beca Pty. Ltd. (Australia): “Design of an aeration system for a wastewater treatment plant treating winery effluents from Wolf Blass Winery”. NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc. developed and calibrated a mathematical model for dynamic simulation of this wastewater plant using BioWin. The model was then used to optimize the design of the aeration system, which operates under differenty seasonal loadings.

Monresa, Uruguay: NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc. permormed an energy efficiency study for water and wastewater treatment systems for this beverage industry. Different operational alternatives were assessed, resulting in a reduction of operational costs.

ESSAL: “Operational assessment of City of Osorno WWTP”. ESSAL produces and distributes water and collects and treats wastewater from 32 of the 42 districts from Chile´s X Region (153.151 residents). Osorno´s wastewater treatment plant is a modern activated sludge plant with UV effluent disinfection, anaerobic digestion and sludge dewatering. NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc., in association with Agias y Riles S.A. performed a technical evaluation of the plant and assessed potential process optimization strategies. Using existing online (SCADA) and offline (laboratory) data, a dynamic simulation of this wastewater treatment plant using BioWin was performed, establishing an strategy for treatment optimization.

Conestoga Rovers Associates: Assistance in the design of a wastewater treatment plant retrofit in Canada. Design and dynamic modeling of fine pore aeration system.

Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios de la Araucania S.A. (ESSAR S.A.): “Updating of Development Planning for Water & Wastewater Treatment.”. The objectives of this project, carried out in collaboration with Aguas y Riles S.A., were to optimize and update the development plan for this private contract operator serving a region in Southern Chile. Current and future demand for collection and treatment were evaluated for each of the 34 communities served by this company. Alternative wastewater treatments systems were studied.

Coca-Cola Peru: On behalf of Coca-Cola South Latin American Division (SLAD), NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc. evaluated different industrial wastewater reuse systems alternatives for 14 bottling plants in Peru. Among other process, a primary treatment assisted with chemical products was considered as a first step of investment previous biological treatment. High water costs in Perú justify the reuse of wastewater within these facilities.

Compañía Tucumana de Refrescos S.A. (Tucuman, Argentina): On behalf of Coca-Cola South Latin American Division (SLAD), NOLASCO & Assoc. Inc. performed the wastewater characterization and preliminary design for non-alcoholic beverage plant in Argentina.

Superintendencia de Servicios Sanitarios (Chile Regulatory Agency): Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment Technology Alternatives for Chile. Assessment of the technical and economical factibility of alternative technologies with the objective to improve sustainability and meet regulatory requirements in urban communities. Regulatory analysis and economic assessment of various technologies for four ranges of communities. Evaluation and definition of design guidelines for the treatment technologies evaluated.
